NatWest launches new current account for 11 to 18 year olds
NatWest has launched a new current account for young people aged 11 to 18 which enables them to create their own card. The account, called NatWest Adapt, aims to give teenagers a sense of independence in managing their own money and is designed to meet the lifestyle needs of young people with special offers and benefits they frequently use.The NatWest Adapt account will pay 3.15% AER interest and is run with a Solo bankcard which can be personalised with a picture of the customers’ choice. 11-18 year olds can individualise their bankcard with a photograph or artwork of their own or they can choose from an image library provided on the NatWest Adapt website. The image library also includes exclusive EMI album covers of popular music artists such as Lily Allen, some of the cast from High School Musical and The Thrills.
Mark Worthington, NatWest Head of Youth Banking, said; “The earlier young people learn about managing money the easier it is for them when they become adults. This is an ideal age to learn about using a PIN to buy things, what a bank statement means and checking how much money is in the account before shopping. The NatWest Adapt account also pays an excellent rate of interest to encourage young people to keep putting money into their account.
“Also, along with personalising their ringtones, Facebook pages and clothes, now they can show their individuality by putting a favourite image on their bankcard, making having a current account more fun.”
The cards can be used in cash machines and shops and come with chip and PIN plus the Solo card means young people cannot spend money that is not already in their account. The account can be managed via branch and cash machines and, if over 16 years old, by telephone and online.
In order to help young people make the most of their Adapt account, NatWest has set up a dedicated website, www.natwest.com/adapt. It enables customers to design their own bankcard, provides advice on how to manage money and even gives a chance to earn extra money by giving their views and opinions on relevant topics for research.
