AIC publishes Venture Capital Trust factsheet

30th January 2008 Print
As investors and advisers explore potential opportunities in the VCT market in time for the end of the tax year, the Association of Investment Companies (AIC) has published a factsheet on VCTs available to download from the AIC website, theaic.co.uk.

The factsheet provides a general overview of VCTs and examines key issues relevant to the sector; including:

What VCTs are and how they differ from other investment companies

How the tax benefits and other characteristics of VCTs have changed over time

Risks and key issues to remember

Annabel Brodie-Smith, Communications Director, AIC, said: “This factsheet is a useful tool for investors looking to find out more about VCTs, and provides a snapshot of how legislation for new VCTs has changed over time, something there has been much confusion over. VCTs can be an ideal way to gain exposure to privately owned companies in a tax efficient way, but there are key issues investors need to be aware of. This factsheet explores both the benefits and risks associated with Venture Capital Trusts in an accessible way. Of course, investors will still need to be clear about the specific features of any VCT they decide to purchase.”
