Another green award for Britannia

Britannia Building Society has scooped the prestigious title of Green Business of the Year at the Staffordshire Green Awards.

The Society picked up the accolade from the Staffordshire arm of Britain's TravelWise Association - a partnership of local authorities and other organisations working together to promote sustainable transport.

Leek-based Britannia beat off stiff competition from companies - including Alton Towers, Coors Brewers and East Staffordshire Borough Council - and was commended for its work on car sharing.

Mark Kelsall, Britannia's environmental project manager, said: "The car sharing scheme at Britannia is extremely popular with up to 440 of our Leek based employees taking part in it. As well as helping the environment, it is also a way of making new friends and cutting petrol costs."
