BBA responds to uSwitch survey

2nd February 2007 Print
Responding to the uSwitch Credit Card Affordability Survey, Angela Knight, chief executive designate of the British Bankers' Association said:

"uSwitch has again misrepresented the facts and got its sums seriously wrong. Banks carry out credit checks when people want to open new credit card accounts. Information provided by applicants about their salary and outgoings is only one element of the credit assessment process. Before issuing cards providers routinely share data and look at any applicant’s previous banking track-record to assess the ability and likelihood of new customers to pay back any money they borrow. But this is only one side of the equation. There is a responsibility on borrowers to give banks honest and comprehensive information about their finances and to consider carefully how they will budget to meet their commitments."
