Over £10bn will be withdrawn from ATMs during December
Sainsbury’s Bank, which only has 'free to use' cash machines in its estate, estimates that during December, £348.06 million a day or £241,708 per minute will be withdrawn from UK cash machines.Overall, it estimates that some 7.59 million cash machine transactions will be made every day during the festive month and that £10.79 billion will be withdrawn from ATMs. If realised, this would be the first time that more than £10 billion has been withdrawn in any month.
When compared to 2003, this would be 1.14 million more cash machine transactions a day and an extra £114.35 million a day being withdrawn.
Alex Blake, Head of ATMs, Sainsbury’s said: “People are more reliant on ATMs than ever before and the peak time for cash withdrawals is December. This helps explain why there has been a 29% increase in the number of ATMs between December 2003 and June 2007.”
Sainsbury’s Bank now has almost 1000 free-to-use ATMs all of which are conveniently located and accessible to customers at Sainsbury’s stores, petrol forecourts and convenience stores all over the country.
