Annual society appeal tops £100,000

Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation is delighted to donate £108,000 to Macmillan Cancer Support following its recent ‘Give a Gift’ fundraising appeal.

The donation will help hundreds of families living with cancer across the UK by providing care grants to cover the unexpected costs associated with cancer, such as travel costs to hospital appointments, childcare costs or increased heating bills.

The appeal ran throughout December with Yorkshire Building Society staff, customers and the general public taking part in a host of fundraising activities including the sale of limited edition cuddly toys and pin badges. Every donation made has been matched pound for pound by the Society’s Charitable Foundation.

The appeal received tremendous support including that of soapstar Wendi Peters.

Wendi said: “I am absolutely delighted that the ‘Give a Gift’ appeal has been such a phenomenal success. £100,000 is a fantastic amount to raise in such a short space of time and I would like to thank everyone that took part in supporting the appeal."

Louise Neill of the Charitable Foundation said: “We asked staff and members of the Society who they would like to support through the Charitable Foundation, and the results showed that charities supporting people with cancer were the most popular choice. We were hoping for a positive reaction to the appeal but we are astounded with the level of enthusiasm, dedication and generosity offered to the appeal and would like to offer our sincere thanks to everyone who got involved.”
