Cheshire Winter Warmer appeal success
Cheshire Building Society, in conjunction with Manchester Evening News, has raised £17,043 through its “Winter Warmer Appeal” during December.Readers who had turned 60 were invited to donate the £200 winter fuel allowance they received from the government if it was not needed.
The appeal captured the hearts of the region with generous readers donating some or all of the money from the fuel allowance to the Winter Warmer Appeal account.
The Cheshire started the appeal rolling by donating £3,000 into the account. A final cheque was presented to Age Concern for the significant sum of £17,043 and this will be used to help individuals who really are struggling to heat their homes, and to provide items such as emergency heaters and warm clothing through their ten centres across Greater Manchester.
Karen McCormick, Chief Executive of Cheshire Building Society said: “We are thrilled to have raised such a tremendous amount of money from hundreds of kind donations from people across Greater Manchester.
“The donations will ensure that individuals who need the fuel allowance can benefit from the gift and it will help to keep more people warm this winter.”
