7th February 2008 Print
Britannia Building Society's award-winning financial education programme, Fit 4 Finance is celebrating its first birthday this month.

One year on, the programme, designed to improve the financial capability of 14 to 18 year olds, has already seen some great results:

2246 students have received the programme
21 schools across Staffordshire, Cheshire and Bristol
40% increase in knowledge of personal finance
won the National Education Business Partner Network Award for business volunteering commitment

Neville Richardson, Group Chief Executive, said: "By teaching young people how to manage their finances properly we are giving them the power to take control of their future, no matter what their circumstances."

Fit 4 Finance introduces students to the basics of personal finance through a series of engaging and interactive workshops. Subjects range from "breaking down financial jargon" to "banks, building societies and interest" and all materials are quality marked by the Personal Finance Education Group (pfeg).

125 volunteers from across the Britannia group have already become volunteers for the programme and have been police checked.

Neville added: "Part of Britannia's strategy is to be a great place to work, grow and develop. Fit 4 Finance gives our people a great opportunity to learn new skills and some of the volunteers are now studying towards professional qualifications."
