Yorkshire says it’s time to make a mark

1st April 2008 Print
Yorkshire Building Society is urging its members – that is its savers and borrowers – to have a say in how the financial business is run.

Over the last couple of weeks each member of the Society has received voting papers where they are asked to give their vote on a number of Society issues. These include accepting the Annual Accounts and Business Statement, the election and re-election of some directors and the re-appointment of the auditors, and they have only until 25th April to get their vote back to the Society.

There are many ways customers can send in their vote, online, by post, at a branch or at the Annual General Meeting, which is being held on 30th April in Bradford. For every vote received the Society will donate 15p (or 25p for each online vote or form returned to a branch) to its Charitable Foundation, up to a maximum £25,000. The Charitable Foundation raises money to support good causes nominated by members and staff, and in 2007 £340,000 was donated to over 1,350 good causes.

Iain Cornish, Chief Executive of Yorkshire Building Society said: “As a mutual building society we very much value the input of our customers, who are the Society’s owners, in the running of the business. Using their annual vote is the best and clearest way for them to have a say in all that we do. I therefore urge all our members to use their vote and at the same time help us raise £25,000 for many local good causes.”
