21st April 2008 Print
Coventry Building Society is delighted to announce that from 1 May, Macmillan Cancer Support has been chosen as its new ‘Charity of the Year'.

For the first time, the Coventry asked its members to help choose which charity to support and they voted in their thousands as part of the annual general meeting held last week. The overwhelming winner was Macmillan Cancer Support who received 73,217 votes. For every vote received the Society pledged to donate 10p - an initial donation of £7,321 has got this year's fundraising off to a good start.

In addition to the donation to Macmillan, £4,019 was given to the Northamptonshire and Warwickshire Air Ambulance and £421 to the North Warwickshire Equestrian Centre, the other short listed charities.

Richard Field, head of communications at Coventry Building Society said: "The Coventry is well known for its community activities and we are delighted to be supporting Macmillan Cancer Support, a very well known and established charity. We're all looking forward to working with them over the coming months and to being involved in some great fund raising activities."

Bernadette Halton from Macmillan, added: "We are really pleased to have been chosen as the Coventry's charity of the year and thank all those members of the Society who voted to make this happen. We look forward to working closely with everyone at the Coventry in the coming months. Anything that is raised is a tremendous support to all those who benefit from our service."
