Society thousands up for grabs in birthday celebrations

10th June 2008 Print
Hundreds of charities and community groups across the nation could soon be benefiting from a cash boost as the Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation invites people to nominate good causes to share in its tenth anniversary charity give-away!

‘Together We Make a Difference Week' runs from Friday 13th June until Saturday 21st June, during which time existing customers and members of the public are invited to call into any of the Yorkshire's 135 branches and 65 agencies to recommend a charity to receive a £50 donation.

The Charitable Foundation is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year and, since it was founded, has donated more than £2.7 million to over 5,600 charities. It receives most of its funds through the Society's unique Small Change, Big Difference scheme where members donate the pennies from the interest they receive on their accounts to make a huge pot of charity money.

Louise Neill of the Foundation said: "We are delighted to be celebrating the tenth anniversary of the Charitable Foundation and what better way to celebrate than to hand £50 gifts to local charities and good causes that are important to our local communities.

"We hold a similar event each year and donated a massive £43,000 last year to over 770 nominated local good causes. I hope that this year's event rivals this success and that hundreds of people will call into a Yorkshire branch to nominate their favourite local charity - together we can really Make a Difference!"
