Cash machines at Tesco are donating to Marie Curie Cancer Care
Tesco Personal Finance has launched a new way to help the Tesco Charity of the Year, Marie Curie Cancer Care. From 26 June 2008 to 28 February 2009, every time customers use a cash machine at Tesco, a donation will be made to the charity. The promotion is completely free to customers as the donation comes from Tesco Personal Finance. It is expected that this will raise £33,000 for Marie Curie Cancer Care.
"Every time customers withdraw cash, check their balance, request a statement or even simply top up their mobile, we will be making a donation to Marie Curie Cancer Care," says Duncan McKinnell, Tesco Personal Finance Operations Director.
‘Through this promotion we're hoping to fund over 1,500 extra hours of nursing care, at home, for people with terminal illnesses throughout the UK. So by simply doing something ordinary, like using a cash machine at Tesco the next time they go shopping, customers can help in providing extraordinary care'.
Marie Curie Cancer Care is celebrating its 60th anniversary and is Tesco Charity of the Year 2008. Throughout the year, Tesco staff and customers will be working to raise £2.5m to provide an additional 125,000 hours of nursing care for terminally ill patients across the UK.
Marie Curie Nurses provide high quality nursing care, totally free, to give people with terminal illnesses the choice of dying in their own homes, supported by their families. Most people want to die at home, in reality half the population die in hospital; the place they least want to be. Marie Curie Cancer Care is campaigning to double the number of terminally ill patients supported to die at home.
