Leeds Building Society raises £2,500 for Jeans for Genes!
Leeds Building Society raised £2,500 for the 2008 Jeans for Genes appeal. This was achieved by all staff jumping into their Jeans and donating £2 on Friday 3rd October, Jeans for Genes day 2008, thereby helping to ‘denimise the nation.'As well as these £2 donations from staff, the Society's Branch network also made a major contribution to the appeal by selling the Fifi and the Flowertot zip-pulls in the two months leading up to Jeans for Genes day.
Jeans for Genes aims to change the world for children living with genetic disorders. The money they raise each year funds care and support for children and their families, as well as research into the causes and cures of these conditions.
Genetic disorders affect 1 in 33 children born in the UK - the equivalent of around one in every class of schoolchildren. Many of these have no current treatment and more than half of all childhood deaths in the UK are linked to a genetic condition.
Gary Brook, Leeds Building Society Public Relations Manager said, "We are delighted to contribute to such a worthy cause. Staff really enjoyed dressing down and this created a relaxed atmosphere in the office. Our 69 strong Branch network also did a superb job in selling the Fifi and the Flowertot zip-pulls and I feel immensely proud of everyone's efforts. We shall certainly look forward to being heavily involved in the appeal in 2009."
