Barclays offer free security software to mobile banking customers

28th January 2009 Print
Barclays has become the first UK bank to offer its mobile banking customers security software to download free of charge, covering anti-virus, anti spam and anti theft protection.

The free security software offer is available to all Barclays online banking customers and is provided by leading internet security firm Kaspersky, which has one of the best reputations in the business. Barclays customers can find further details at Barclays.mobi and can take up this offer after logging into online banking and clicking on the ‘Kaspersky offer' link.

In addition, Barclays.mobi customers will benefit from a revamped site when accessing the internet through a web-enabled mobile phone, making banking easier and more intuitive. Customers accessing online banking over a mobile phone will find it easier to view their account balance, statements at a glance, make transfer between accounts and make payments outside of the bank.

This latest initiative follows on from Barclays becoming the first UK bank in 2008 to offer complete free internet security software to all its two million online banking customers and completing the roll out of its two factor authentication system, PINsentry. PINsentry protects customers against phishing attacks and fraudsters getting hold of customer security information.

Sean Gilchrist, Director for Electronic Banking, said: "Barclays has offered customers one of the best security packages of all online banks over the last two years and it's important that customers protect their mobile phones in the same way they do their computers from all threats, by downloading this new software."

Barclays customers that are not banking online or by mobile can register by going to barclays.co.uk. Non-Barclays customers can gain access to the free software by opening a Barclays current account and registering for online banking.
