Leeds Building Society quiz night raises funds for local charities

8th April 2009 Print
The Leeds Building Society Grand Quiz Night was held at the Jongleurs Comedy Club in central Leeds.

The evening had an underlying aim to raise money for the fund set up by the Society's Heads of Department to support the three charities they have adopted this year. These charities are St Gemma's Hospice and Martin House Children's Hospice, both in Leeds, and the Great Northern Children's Hospital in Newcastle.

The fund was kick started by the generous sponsorship of the Quiz Night by our external auditors, Deloittes, and a contribution of £10 from each Head of Department. Then, in the week before the quiz, raffle tickets were sold across the Society; in Head Office and throughout our 70 strong Branch network.

Prizes on offer included a signed Leeds Rhinos Shirt (donated by the Rhinos), a £75 Red Letter Days voucher (donated by Leeds Financial Services) and a £50 M&S Voucher (donated by Norwich Union).

Robin Owen-Morley, Head of Management Information said, "More than 180 members of staff were there as well as a team from the sponsors. Senior Management was also well represented on the evening. The two winning teams shared a half case of wine each and the third place team received a box of chocolates.

"In total £1,400 was raised for the Leeds Building Society Heads of Charities funds - St Gemma's Hospice, Martin House Children's Hospice and the Great Northern Children's Hospital in Newcastle. This was a fantastic result, with people having a lot of fun whilst raising money for charity at the same time.

"Thanks must go to the Sponsors, Deloittes, all the donors of the raffle prizes, everyone who bought raffle tickets and everyone who attended the highly successful Quiz Night. We will certainly look forward to making this a regular event within our sports and social calendar."
