Leeds Building Society ‘nets' £2,000 for charity

1st July 2009 Print
The Leeds Building Society Wimbledon themed fundraising day was held on Friday 26th June. The event raised £2,000 through a dress down day, quiz and via the sale of raffle tickets and cake.

The event had an underlying aim to raise money for the fund set up by the Society's Heads of Department to support the three charities they have adopted this year. These charities are St Gemma's Hospice and Martin House Children's Hospice in Leeds, and the Great Northern Children's Hospital in Newcastle. The target is to raise £10,000 for these three charities in 2009 and the total now stands at £5,200.

In the week leading up to the Charity day there was a raffle with several fantastic prizes, including a luxury hamper, a signed Leeds Rhinos shirt, bottles of champagne and many other exciting prizes. On the day itself there were homemade scones with strawberries and cream available as well as a tennis themed quiz. The culmination of the event saw all staff invited to join the Executive and Senior Management team for complimentary Pimms on the Sky Lounge and Roof terrace.

Katherine Tong, Head of Compliance and Financial Crime said, "The success of the Wimbledon themed fundraising day far surpassed our expectations. Everyone joined in the spirit of the event, with the scone and strawberries sale selling out in 20 minutes.

"The Chief Executive and the Senior Management Team rounded off the day nicely with a drinks evening. The support of the staff is invaluable for those charities that have seen their fundraising amounts decline over the last year or two.

"In total £2,000 was raised for the Leeds Building Society Heads of Charities funds - St Gemma's Hospice and Martin House Children's Hospice in Leeds and the Great Northern Children's Hospital in Newcastle. This was a fantastic result, with people having a lot of fun whilst raising money for charity at the same time."
