Nationwide's members help raise £250,000 for Macmillan

16th July 2009 Print
Nationwide At Nationwide's Annual General Meeting (AGM), held today at the International Convention Centre in Birmingham, the votes of almost 1.4 million Nationwide members helped to raise £250,000 for its chosen charity, Macmillan Cancer Support.

Commenting on the vote, Geoffrey Howe, Nationwide's chairman, said: "I am delighted that so many of our members have chosen to use their vote this year and, in doing so, have helped raise £250,000 for our flagship charity, Macmillan Cancer Support. The money raised will be used by Macmillan to help fund Welfare Benefits Advisors based at Citizens Advice Bureaux in Hinckley, Lutterworth and Market Harborough, which will make a real difference to many people's lives.

"This vote is also a ringing endorsement of our mutual status. It is important to Nationwide, as a member owned organisation, that our members take part in this democratic process. They have shown their support for the Society and our directors who, I believe, have the skills and experience to lead Nationwide to further success in the future."
