Leeds staff raise £3,000 for Marie Curie Cancer Care

23rd July 2009 Print
Over thirty Leeds Building Society staff raised £3,000 for Marie Curie Cancer Care by climbing the Three Peaks at the weekend in a 25-mile charity challenge.

The team climbed Yorkshire's highest peaks, which are Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough.

The staff were drawn from across the Society's branch network, with representatives from the Barnsley, Beeston, Bradford, Dewsbury, Holbeck, Horsforth, Huddersfield, Kendal, Manchester, Sale and Yeadon Branches.

By raising funds from this challenge, Leeds Building Society staff are helping Marie Curie Cancer Care actively promote a better quality of life for people with cancer and provide support for their families free of charge.

Bev Nugent, Leeds Building Society's Area Development Manager in the North West said, "We were delighted to have brought together such a large team to take part in this gruelling challenge to raise funds for one of our partner charities, Marie Curie Cancer Care.

"The weather was certainly not on our side, with strong winds and heavy showers, but there was a great atmosphere with all involved displaying a stoical attitude. We are already looking forward to doing it again next year, and have had enquiries from other staff wanting to join our group."

Amy Currin, Leeds Building Society's Corporate Relationship Partner from Marie Curie Cancer Care said, "This was a fantastic achievement, especially considering the appalling weather conditions on the day. To secure £3,000 in sponsorship is really impressive. Group fundraising ventures such as this are vital to us, and we are very grateful for all the training the team undertook and the strenuous efforts they made to secure sponsorship."
