Near zero interest rates opportunity of a lifetime

10th September 2009 Print
David Kuo, Director at financial website The Motley Fool - Fool.co.uk, says: "The patient has been defibrillated, put on life support and now it's time for a period of slow rehabilitation.

"It is, therefore, not surprising that the Bank of England has kept interest rates on hold and maintained its strategy of quantitative easing.

"But we mustn't grow complacent with low interest rates in the same way that we became complacent with easy access to credit. The measures taken by the Central Bank are inflationary and interest rate hikes are inevitable.

"It is important to exploit low interest rates now to pay down debt before the cost of borrowing rises. Investors should position their portfolios for a period of high inflation too.

"Near zero interest rates is an opportunity of a lifetime. But it is easy to miss the opportunity until it ceases to become one."
