Manchester City Council recognised for employee health strategy
Manchester City Council has been presented with a prestigious Healthy Workplace award in recognition of its proactive employee health management strategy.The Council received the award from national healthcare provider HealthSure to reward its commitment to the health and well-being of its 26,000 employees across the city.
One of the largest councils in the UK, Manchester has been developing its health strategy over a number of years.
Manchester City Council’s executive member for human resources, Councillor Sue Murphy, said: “We are delighted to receive this award from HealthSure as the well-being of our employees is extremely important to us. We recognise that their good health is crucial to providing a continued high standard of services to Manchester residents.”
A key element of the health management strategy is the provision of a HealthSure healthcare cash plan that gives employees access to a wide range of everyday, essential healthcare treatments such as dental checks, eye tests, physiotherapy and complementary therapies – and claim back towards the cost of treatment.
Along with access to the cash plan, Manchester City Council employees also receive a host of other healthy benefits including free eye-tests, free blood pressure checks, discounted gym membership and regular health promotion events.
“We hope to keep our employees in good health by ensuring that they have access to as many health improvement options as possible,” added Councillor Murphy.
Continuing on this healthy theme, the Council actively promotes the Manchester Fun Run and encourages its employees to take part as a way of keeping fit whilst raising funds for worthwhile causes.
