HSA: Tesco entering the dental insurance market

Chris Harrison, Managing Director from HSA comments: “Tesco entering the dental insurance market is an indication that consumers are taking a greater responsibility for funding their dental treatment and maintenance. And, we would welcome any company that helps raise awareness of the importance of oral health and the current issues surrounding dentistry.

“The private dental market is growing rapidly, with 58% of dental provision now handled away from the NHS . In fact, since HSA launched its first stand-alone Dental Plan in September 2006, we have achieved high customer interest with nearly 40,000 new subscribers, and we currently pay around 1.16 million dental claims a year across all our healthplans.

“It remains to be seen whether consumers will embrace supermarkets as a route to market for this type of healthplan, which traditionally has been strongly reliant on the human touch as a key part of the path to purchase.”
