Cliff’s Hoping For A Fragrant No. 1 This Christmas...

Today, of course, Cliff isn’t just known for his musical successes - but also the fragrances his hits inspired, which have become bestsellers, worn by his legions of fans and by fragrance-lovers who just love the perfumes themselves: Miss You Nights, Devil Woman and Dream Maker. In fact, Cliff says, ‘I had the idea to create a perfume when I saw the pleasure it gave my sisters, when I gave them perfume for Christmas…’
This festive season sees the launch of the ultimate Christmas gift: a special collection of his trio of signature scents in a special Christmas ‘Cliff’ box.
Discover warm, floriental Miss You Nights, with its heady notes of ylang-ylang, rose and jasmine (which remind Cliff of his home in Barbados). Dream Maker opens with a zing of citrus notes, which give way to a floral heart – inspired by the sweet-smelling flowers Cliff grows in his own garden, and with spicy, woody undertones. And Devil Woman – Cliff’s latest creation – evokes a heady sensuality, with a fruity note of cassis, and exotic ingredients from faraway lands: musk, precious woods, Madagascan vanilla and benzoin resin, from Indonesia.
So, as Christmas approaches, Cliff opens his heart to share some of his Christmas thoughts and memories…
Q. What are your special Christmas memories, Cliff?
A. I have had so many happy Christmases that it’s difficult to choose only one! A memory that has stayed with me is when many years ago I went to church on Christmas Eve, to receive Communion. While we were in the service, it began to snow. By the time we emerged from church, everything was covered with a fresh blanket of snow. It was like a magical scene from a Christmas card, and that image has remained with me all these years…
Q. Are there smells and fragrances you especially associate with Christmas?
A. My favourite smell is that of fresh pine Christmas trees. It is such a fresh, uplifting and invigorating scent, so special to Christmas. I never tire of it and look forward to it every year.
Q. What is your favourite, of the Christmas No. 1s and big Christmas hits you’ve had?
A. I’ve had two Christmas No. 1s – ‘Mistletoe & Wine’ and ‘Savior’s Day’ – but my personal all-time favourite Christmas song (that I’ve recorded) is ‘Little Town’, which never made it to No. 1. This Christmas, I do have a new single being released on 11th December called ‘21st Century Christmas’. I very much hope it will be my third Christmas No. 1. It’s gone down very well on my current UK tour, so I’m hopeful!
Q. Is there something special about performing in December? Is the atmosphere at your concerts different, because of the festive spirit?
A. I often tour in the weeks leading up to Christmas and the fans are just wonderful. They bring all the vibrancy of Christmas to my concerts; typically they bring garlands, tinsel, Christmas cards and do festive waves during the performances! It’s very inspiring and I look forward to it as the start of my personal Christmas season.
Q. What does Christmas mean to you?
A. I do enjoy all the celebrations and traditions of Christmas: the sending of cards, opening presents and Christmas lunch with my family. But to me, all that would be meaningless if it were not for the fact that the day celebrates Jesus’s birth.
For Cliff-lovers – and fragrance-lovers – everywhere, its sure be the No. 1 Christmas gift!
