Valuable Advice For Christmas Party Girls

50% of women will suffer cystitis at some point and alcohol is a big trigger. Professor Janice Rymer, (Kings College, London) offers some down to earth advice on keeping the burn at bay this Christmas:
1) Water, Wine, Water, Wine
Drink plenty of water to help flush alcohol through the system. (It’ll help ease the hangover too).
2) Ban the ‘Smellies’
Exotic sounding lotions and potions we get in our Christmas stocking smell good enough to eat, but may not be the best for sensitive intimate skin. In the same way as facial skin can be irritated by lotions and potions, the delicate skin down there can be easily upset by perfumed or high pH wash products. So leave the wonderful bath and shower gels to the top half of your body and try something like Femfresh which is pH balanced (and gynaecologically tested) to limit the risk of a reaction.
3) Sex…Mmmh, ARGH!
A woman who has had sex in the last 48 hours is 60 times more likely to get a urinary tract infection over a woman who has not. Make sure you pee straight after sex or even better have a shower.
4) Skinny Jeans
Fantastic for showing off slim pins, but tight clothing can lead too increased perspiration and warmth, which is a breading ground for bacteria increasing the risk of infection. Try a looser fit and cotton underwear to minimise attacks, and if you get hot on the dance floor keep a wipe handy for a quick freshening in the loo.
