Credit crunch facelifts take off

9th December 2008 Print
Budget ‘facelifts’ are booming as women choose minimally invasive treatments rather than going under the knife, says a leading cosmetic surgeon. Spending on minor cosmetic surgery such as the removal of ugly thread veins or rocacea is up by 60 per cent says Dr Newman’s Clinic, which has outlets all over the UK.

This year in the UK, £1 billion will be spent on cosmetic surgery but industry experts predict more people will opt for minor treatments in 2009 as the recession worsens. 90% of people undergoing cosmetic surgery are women.

Dr Brian Newman, founder of Dr Newman’s Clinic, said:

“Women refuse to stop improving their appearance despite the credit crunch. However, they are more reluctant to go under the knife because of the cost. Instead they’re opting for more simple cosmetic treatments. We’ve seen a 60 per cent increase since the summer in the number of people having treatment for thread veins or rosacea.

“It’s cheaper and easier than a facelift under the knife but has a dramatic effect on people’s appearance and confidence. Women will not cut back on making themselves look better and this is one of the most recession-proof sectors in business.

“2009 will see further rises in botox, fillers and Veinwave treatment.”

Dr Newman’s Clinic is located in London, Glasgow, Greater Manchester, Newcastle and Birmingham
