Linden Homes: Carnival fever
Linden Homes has started the ball rolling on the biggest event to hit Redhill in five years with a £10,000 donation to the Redhill Carnival - a two day event taking place this June.Six thousand people attended The Rotary organised event when it was last held in 2002, marking the biggest ever retail day experienced by the town outside of Christmas. Organisers are confident of topping this in the summer thanks to the level of support received from local businesses and the media.
The Carnival was introduced as an event for the whole Redhill community, to involve a wide range of people from local businesses, charities, clubs and social organisations. Designed for and run by the people of Redhill, the order of the day is mapped out entirely by local participants, who will be running stalls and staging performances in the Memorial Park area of town.
Chairman, John Gooden comments:
“Linden’s sponsorship has enabled us to arrange some spectacular events, such as the large scale carnival parade through the centre of town and stunning firework display that will bring the curtain down on what will be another great day for the town. Five years ago we welcomed over 6,000 people to the streets of Redhill and we hope the attraction of this year’s events will take this number over the 10,000 mark.”
This year’s festivities will kick off on Saturday June 3 with a range of Gala performances and street theatre, finishing with a dramatic firework finale to be launched from Memorial Gardens. The following day will bring the ever popular carnival parade, weaving its way through town, led by the local lollipop ladies and gentlemen to mark the 70th anniversary of the country’s first school crossing attendant.
Steve Lavers, Land and Sales Director of Linden Homes South East comments:
“Building new homes in the area has brought us very close to the people of Redhill and we are delighted to have been able to make a contribution to such a memorable event for the town. It is great to have an event staged entirely by local people, and we are looking forward to taking an active part in proceedings.”
