New homes offer solution for London commuters

Families relocating to the south of England from elsewhere in the UK often find themselves trying to buy in the most expensive part of the country. However, the London commuter belt can still offer an affordable solution to those buying into the south east market, says Linden Homes.

Homebuyer Matthew McDonald faced a few tough decisions when a job relocation took him from Birmingham to a new office in London. Both he and his partner Kate owned property in the Midlands, which they opted to sell and pool funds for the move south.

With the money from Mathew’s two-bedroom semi detached home and Kate’s one-bedroom apartment, the couple were surprised to find they could afford a three-bedroom house at Linden Homes’ Fusion development in Old Woking, at just under £300,000.

The couple, who have a two-year-old daughter, moved in just before Christmas. Matthew commented:

“As well as changing location we needed to buy a larger home and were wary of the price divide between the north and south. But we managed to get a good-sized family home at a very good price for the south east and the set-up here really suits us. Although our house is in quite a rural setting just outside Woking town centre, I have an easy journey into London by car or by rail.”
