Looking for a home priced under£300,000, the couple faced fierce local competition; indeed, it seemed that as soon as they spotted a property of suitable size and price, they were under starter’s orders! They actually had offers accepted on two houses but on each occasion were gazumped.

“We have been living in a two-bedroom apartment in Woodham, on the other side of Croydon but since our daughter was born 14 months ago, we have been looking for a family house with an additional bedroom and a garden but we didn’t want to move too far away as we know the area well,” says Jonathan. “Finding a suitably priced property became something of a nightmare, until a friend mentioned that we should visit The Academy. We did and we were very impressed”

The Academy comprises a range of stylish one, two, three and four-bedroom homes in an excellent location in Addington, just north-east of Croydon. Currently, a wide choice of two-bedroom apartments is available, the majority featuring private balconies and many providing en-suite shower rooms to the master bedroom. As Jonathan and Sarah Jane discovered, the three and four-bedroom houses offer plenty of well-planned living space including a living/dining room, separate kitchen and a study.

Internally, style and quality has been a priority; kitchen units feature pear-coloured Shaker-style doors and are complemented by dark granite-effect work surfaces whilst bathrooms and en-suite shower rooms are fitted with elegant white sanitaryware and ceramic wall tiles, complemented by the latest chrome fittings and granite effect vanity tops.

“We couldn’t get over the fact that the homes at The Academy offered such excellent value for money and, were even more reasonably priced, thanks to the fantastic incentives offered by Fairview New Homes,” continues Jonathan. “We had saved enough to pay 10% of the deposit on a new home and Fairview paid a further 5% which enabled us to get a considerably better rate on our mortgage. Fairview also paid our stamp duty and our legal fees which certainly eased the financial burden of buying a new home. The sales team are so helpful and efficient that we haven’t had any problems and have only visited the site about three times”

Now the couple who managed to secure a three-bedroom, end-of-terrace townhouse with a large garden, are looking forward to moving into their new home. They feel that, although they haven’t moved far, that Addiscombe will be a much more pleasant and peaceful place to live than where they currently live and that it will be the perfect environment to bring up their daughter.

“We are really impressed with the location of the site, the High Street, which is only five minutes’ walk away, has all the stores you could need and there’s a leisure centre just around the corner,” says Jonathan. “We are really hoping there will be lots of other young families at The Academy.”

With the range of new homes on offer attracting first and second time buyers, young and more mature families and downsizers, it seems likely that other young families will join this exciting new community. Certainly, there will be a number of commuters buying at the development with the new Croydon Tramlink stop in Addiscombe providing easy access to Croydon, Wimbledon, Beckenham and New Addington. For those who travel to London, the rail journey from East Croydon to London Bridge takes about 40 minutes and the M25 is approximately 12 miles away.
