Barratt acquires planning for Merton College site

4th October 2007 Print
Following the success of its recently completed scheme, The Waverley Apartments, in Morden, Barratt has acquired planning permission for a new development on a site previously occupied by Merton College Sixth Form Centre.

The sale of the Central Road site has enabled Merton College to fund an ambitious £22 million project which has improved facilities and resources for the 5,000 students at its main site in London Road.

Barratt has already received numerous enquiries regarding the 283 new homes planned for the area, which will include both private and affordable apartments and houses as well as a doctor’s surgery, pharmacy and nursery. Indeed, it is anticipated that the development, including two and three-bedroom two-storey houses and townhouses, will prove as popular as The Waverley Apartments which were sold within just six months of the initial launch.

One reason for the popularity of this area is that it combines easy commuting with reasonable property prices. From nearby St Helier station, it takes about 30 minutes to London Waterloo and 10 minutes to Wimbledon by rail. Morden tube station, on the Northern Line, is approximately a mile from the development and, by road the A217 provides access to the M25 at junction 8.
