Globetrotting property builders choose to buy new

Globetrotting property builders choose to buy new Following a long history of homebuilding that has spanned the globe, property experts Dave and Hazel Osborne have exchanged the warmth of Australia for a wintery English climate, opting for the stress-free alternative of new-build development in a peaceful Surrey village.

The decision to move into new-build property represents a major change for Dave (64) and Hazel (55), who have painstakingly built their own homes from scratch across three continents. However, the chance of a hassle-free move and a developer guarantee led them to Linden Homes. The couple chose a detached home off-plan at the housebuilder’s newly launched development - The Crescent, in the traditional Surrey village of Warlingham.

Commenting on their decision to buy new, Surrey Hazel said:

“Although we have loved building our own homes in the past, it is a lot of hard work and we wanted this move to be stress-free. There are a lot more stipulations to contend with when building your own home these days, which tends to take the pleasure out of it. Producing a home from scratch is now a full-time job, and while we had more time and resources to do this in Australia, we were eager to move to England to be close to friends and family.”

Having built homes from Vancouver to Brisbane, Dave and Hazel chose Surrey due to its picturesque countryside and village way of life. They moved to the area last summer to begin their search, renting a Linden Homes property. This allowed them to gain a feel for the developer’s style and finish, and when Linden launched a new development in nearby Warlingham, they reserved a home there straight away.

Hazel added:

“Buying with a developer meant we could pass over all the hard work, and that we now have a home that is low maintenance, secure and guaranteed against eventualities such as the roof falling in! Having lived in one, and visited several completed Linden homes, meant that we were confident in the quality of finish and because we bought off-plan we were able to tailor the interior of the home to our own tastes and requirements.”

Paul Cooper, Managing Director of Linden Homes South East comments:

“New-build provides a rounded package that offers security and low-maintenance for the long-term, and people often chose to come back to new-build development as they approach the end of their homebuyer career to guarantee this in retirement

“Dave and Hazel had a very clear vision for their new home, and it is a great testament to this development that such experienced worldwide home buyers have chosen to settle down here, especially after a long career of building their own homes.”

Homes at The Crescent currently start at £439,995 for three bedroom semi-detached homes with allocated parking and south-facing gardens.
