Location is key to a happy retirement

Location is key to a happy retirement Research by Schlag and Schwenkhagen has shown that mobility is of great importance to older people and contributes to a better quality of life and happiness. For these reasons, older drivers are often reluctant to give up the car but often it is a reality that many have to face up to.

In these situations public transport and easy access to local facilities is a key factor when older people are choosing where to live. Crest Nicholson’s new development The Atrium in Camberley, Surrey provided the ideal solution for one older buyer wishing to hang up her car keys.

72 year old Mrs Hallet had been contemplating a move closer to her family in Camberley from her large family home in Essex for a few years. Location was going to be a major factor in her relocation as she was looking to give up driving. With very specific requirements nowhere seemed to quite fit the bill. That was until she visited Crest Nicholson’s The Atrium, an exciting development comprising a mix of stylish one and two bedroom apartments and penthouses, situated in an ideal location in Camberley town centre.

Mrs Hallet comments: “The Atrium was the only development I had seen that was right for me. Due to its central location and high quality finish the development offered me the lifestyle choices that I wanted. Making the choice to give up driving was a difficult decision so it was very important that I was able to maintain the independent life style that I was accustomed to. At The Atrium I have all the shops on my doorstep and fantastic transport links which has made the transition much easier.”

Situated right at the heart of Camberley’s town centre, close to the station and with easy access to a wide range of shops, cafes and restaurants Crest Nicholson’s The Atrium had all she could have wished for. Finally able to give up driving and enjoy some town centre living, Mrs Hallet put down a deposit for her new home.

Helen Boniface, Sales and Marketing Manager, Crest Nicholson Regeneration Ltd, comments: “The Atrium has so much to offer those who want everything on their doorstep. As a mixed use development The Atrium is kick starting the regeneration of Camberley and offers a real opportunity to homebuyers. The Atrium is attracting a whole range of buyers and the location of the stylish new apartments is proving very popular. Over the next year we expect to see a complete transformation of the town and now is an ideal time to buy.”

Mrs Hallet has purchased an attractive two bedroom top floor apartment with a balcony.

She comments: “I had a very specific ‘must have’ list and The Atrium ticked all the boxes! I needed to be within walking distance from the station and the shops so that I could meet up with friends and not be totally dependent on my family. I also wanted a spare room so that my friends from Essex could come and stay.

“Outdoor space was also a huge must-have and my south facing balcony meant that I could bring my favourite plants with me!”

Apartments at The Atrium have been carefully designed to provide a haven from today’s busy lifestyle, with features included open plan living accommodation, built-in wardrobes, en-suite bathrooms to selected apartments and fully fitted kitchens with integrated ceramic hob, stainless steel extractor hood, dishwasher and fridge freezer. Residents at The Atrium also benefit from lifts and each apartment has its own designated car parking space.

Ideally located for commuters, The Atrium is less than half a mile from Camberley train station, which offers services to London Waterloo in just over an hour. Train journeys to central London from nearby Farnborough station take as little as 35 minutes.
In addition to the new homes, The Atrium comprises 14 new retail outlets including a multi-screen Vue cinema, a 22-lane bowling complex and numerous restaurants and cafes including Café Rouge, Frankie & Bennys and Starbucks. There is also a new multi-storey car park with space for a total of 900 vehicles.

Prices at The Atrium start from £240,000 for a two bedroom apartment with more one bedroom apartments to be released soon. For further enquiries visit the website at Crestnicholson.com/TheAtrium.
