Tranquillity with convenience

24th June 2008 Print
Tranquillity with convenience Tucked away off leafy Woodham Lane and backing onto the tranquil Basingstoke Canal, at Woodham Park it’s easy to forget just how well placed you are for Woking town centre and its first rate links to London. This collection of nine, individually appointed 5 bedroom homes occupying a peaceful gated cul-de-sac means you needn’t compromise a great location for your own idyllic hideaway, where the sound of birdsong pervades.

This serenity combined with spacious layouts and developer Millgate Homes’ renowned specification were things that Janet and David Pollock fell in love with as soon as they visited site, as Janet explains:

“When we discovered Woodham Park, we weren’t looking for a brand new home. We were renting, having recently sold a new build house in Ascot that we had bought the previous year to downsize to, having lived for seven years in an Edwardian House in Twickenham followed by 23 years in a large, Victorian Gothic house in Teddington, both of which we restored. This had been our first experience of buying new, and while it provided a rest from restoring, we soon realised that neither Ascot nor the property was right for us, and decided to sell up and look for something else.

“We are retired and our children have left home, but with young grandchildren although we were downsizing we wanted a home with plenty of space for when friends and family visit. Also, as we are used to a large period property and have substantial pieces of furniture, to downscale too much wasn’t an option.

“We started our search around Weybridge and Walton-on-Thames, and didn’t really consider Woking – however, I had seen Woodham Park on the web before we started looking, and thought it may be worth a visit. We were passing one day and decided to drop in. As soon as we drove through the gates, we fell in love with the setting – it really is very special.

“While the Show Home was very impressive, and we loved the fact that the garden backed onto the canal, we didn’t feel an open plan layout was for us, preferring a more traditional separate drawing and dining room. The perfect solution came in the form of Lichfield House - its garden slopes back to the canal and is beautifully peaceful, which is perfect for me - as a keen gardener I spend a lot of time outside!

“Having moved in, we’re delighted with the house – the family has already been to visit and they were all very impressed. The location is also fantastic – we have the peace and quiet we were looking for, but are less than half an hour by car or train from our friends back in London.”

Two 5 bedroom homes, both featuring an outstanding specification that includes kitchens by international designer Mark Wilkinson and offering spacious, versatile accommodation remain at Woodham Park. Just one of the properties, Millmead House, backs onto the canal and enjoys its own mooring, and is on the market for £1,350,000 while Hatherton House is available for £1,050,000.

The Show Home is open daily from 10am to 4pm. Alternatively, visit Millgatehomes.co.uk.
