The impact of congestion charging on the London market

9th February 2007 Print
Adam Stackhouse, Sales Director of Chesterton, comments: “I do not believe that house prices within the extended congestion zone will increase when the charging commences on 19th February.

"The new area takes in some of the most desirable areas of the capital such as Kensington and Knightsbridge, which have been popular for centuries, with prices driven by more influential factors than avoiding an £8/day road charge.

“Outside of the congestion zone, the majority of purchasers continue to demand proximity to public transport, suggesting that the car plays less and less of a role in Londoners’ daily travel. It is true that around the fringes of the congestion zone traffic will become much heavier as commuters plan new routes avoiding the charge but I do not expect prices to be affected in the long term.”
