Artist’s gates unveiled at Tabard Square
The gates at Berkeley Homes’ Tabard Square development in Borough, SE1, have been unveiled. The gates, which are made from galvenized steel, have been designed by artist Andy Webb and form the access between the public square of the development and Long Lane and Sterry Street. The gates will be open during the day allowing both residents and members of the general public access to the square but will be closed in the evening ensuring Tabard Square is a secure environment.
“I felt that the design of the buildings at Tabard Square coupled with the ancient semi religious nature of the site were suggesting forms that were monolithic but at the same time hopefully ethereal. I used this as the inspiration when designing the gates, in particular the way the gates punch out of the ground feathering off at the top. This suggests reaching up to something or somewhere better,” commented Andy Webb.
Tabard Square is the stunning development of one of the largest brownfield sites in London, covering 1.2 acres. The site has been transformed into an entirely new community, with 572 one, two and three bedroom apartments and penthouses located in highly contemporary-style buildings that rise from six to eight storeys in height, with the landmark tower standing at 22- storeys high.
Only two penthouses remain for sale at Tabard Square. The penthouses feature a highly contemporary specification, designed to offer open plan living. Lineana Quattro Italian fitted kitchens come complete with Miele stainless steel appliances while the bathrooms feature ceramic wall and floor tiles.
The penthouses also feature a spiral staircase with glass treads and curved glass balustrade, paved terrace and decked balconies, zonal underfloor heating and a hard wired integrated audio visual system that includes ceiling speakers, wall-mounted control points and an Ipod docking station.
Purchasers of the penthouses will also benefit from some of the most unrivalled views of London, which are enhanced by floor-to-ceiling glazing. The Millennium Wheel on the South Bank, St Paul’s Cathedral, Tower 42, the Shell Building, Southwark Cathedral, Tate Modern, the Houses of Parliament, the BT Tower, 30 St Mary Axe (the ‘Gherkin’), Tower Bridge and Canary Wharf in the Docklands can all be seen from the apartment.
Situated within easy reach of Borough Market, which offers some of the best fresh produce in the UK, Tabard Square is located just a short stroll from London’s financial hub. Borough underground station on the Northern line, is just a short walk from the development, while London Bridge train station is ten minutes away and offers access to the Jubilee line as well as main line railways.
The central public square features a 3,400 sq-ft sculptural pavilion as its central feature, which will offer facilities for a bar and restaurant and, combined with the communal gardens, will become the hub of the community. The development also features 46,000 sq-ft of commercial space and a 24-hour concierge.
The last remaining penthouses are priced from £1.3 million- £2.5 million. Viewings are by appointment only. For further information, visit Tabard-square.co.uk.
