Bellway’s Meridian South is apple of the judges’ eyes Bellway South East has received a coveted Gold prize in the Green Apple Awards 2007. The accolade for Best Mixed Use Development went to Bellway’s Meridian South scheme in the London Borough of Lewisham.

Speaking for the judges, the Awards Organiser, Roger Wolens, said: "The quality and quantity of entries was higher than ever this year, so Bellway did particularly well against such strong competition."

Meridian South has been much acclaimed and has already won a Hot Property Award. Located only 13 minutes by train to London Bridge, Bellway’s Meridian South provides 544 stylish, high quality 1, 2 and 3 bedroom apartments in a village environment, on the doorstep of one of the world’s greatest cities.

The £100 million redevelopment involved the former Hither Green Hospital at Hither Green Lane, set south of Greenwich on the Meridian Line. Features of the scheme include a central pedestrian piazza with shops, restaurants and a gym. The scheme includes a mix of low-rise new-build apartments and converted historic building. The Historic Quarter includes a Victorian Clock-tower that has been designated as a satellite police station. The quarter also includes 4 other former hospital buildings, which Bellway has converted and refurbished. One is a working GP surgery, another a nursery and two have been converted into live-work units. In addition, the Meridian Line which runs through a corner of the site is marked with eight plaques specially commissioned by Bellway and set into the ground. They were unveiled by the Major of Lewisham.

Meridian South is the perfect example of the Bellway strategy of designing homes for a 21st century modern lifestyle. Palvinder Thandi, Sales Director of Bellway South East, who collected the Green Apple Award, said: “We are delighted that Meridian South has been recognised in this way. The Green Apple Awards recognise and celebrate best practice in environmental initiatives and we were delighted that the judges felt that Meridian South is just such an exemplar of excellence. We are very proud of the village environment we have created here.”

Meridian South has also gained the runner up prize in the London District Surveyors Association’s Building Quality Awards 2007 for Best Residential Development.

In addition, the Project Manager for Meridian South, Mike Ellis, has for the third successive year, been short-listed for The NHBC Top 100 Seal of Excellence Award.
