Metro Designs for major housing association

Rapidly-expanding Metro Design Consultants, renowned for creating contemporary working environments for multi-national companies and major public bodies, has been further contracted by Ujima, which is a housing group and one of the largest black businesses in Europe. Ujima’s Patron is the poet Benjamin Zephaniah and Ujima very much reflects his ethos in wanting to engage, enable and enrich black and minority-ethnic communities.

In its first work for Ujima, Metro produced a modern customer-contact centre at the company’s London Headquarters in Wembley. This was followed by the opening up of the reception area to create a more welcoming and assuring space.

In the latest development, Metro is designing a modern efficient work environment across five floors, creating effective work spaces to further empower Ujima to provide outstanding services to the diverse communities they serve across 20 London Boroughs.

Keith Kerr, Chief Executive Officer, Ujima said: “We at Ujima care very much about our staff. Metro is creating pleasant and motivational work spaces for them, which will assist us in delivering excellent customer service.”

Metro’s plan is to open up all the floors and expand the space. It will create more light, making offices bright and airy, with desks that complement the light wooden floors.

Daniel Taylor, Managing Director, Metro Design Consultants said: “Ujima in Swahili means working together to make things better. I believe Metro and Ujima have a strong partnership that will produce a modern, feel-good, work environment.

The project commenced in June and will be completed by November 2007. Metro will plan its work around the company as during this time Ujima will be in full occupancy.
