Property party brings record sales for Clapton

8th August 2007 Print
Clapton is now officially one of the most sought-after locations in London after £3.3 million worth of new properties changed hands in a single night.

The purchases took place at an exclusive investor party held by developer George Wimpey to launch phase two of Altius, a stylish development of one and two-bedroom apartments on Mount Pleasant Hill.

Ten plots were sold during the three-hour event, including the penthouse property. A further five properties have since been reserved by investors who attended the party.

George Wimpey believes this rapid rate of sales demonstrates that people’s perceptions of East London are changing fast, particularly with the forecast Olympic Games investment spearheading its regeneration.

Tina Dedman, sales director for George Wimpey East London, said: “Investors are now seeing Clapton as a stylish, up-and-coming location perfect for young professional tenants.

“With Canary Wharf and the Olympic venues close by, the area is set to become a hotbed for ambitious people – and buy-to-let investors have clearly seen the possibilities this area holds.”

Campbell Pratt and Nina Phillips, a couple who already live in the development, decided to add to their two-bed apartment with a further one-bedroom property.

Campbell said: “Altius is cheaper than a lot of developments around London, and you get the full benefit of living in a trendy apartment with all the latest fittings.

“Central London is easily accessible from here, and with so much regeneration going on the area, the value of the new apartments will hopefully rise considerably over the next few years.”
