Barratt scores £500m South London hat-trick
Barratt Developments has won its third major South London success in three months by being named preferred developer for the redevelopment of Loampit Vale in Lewisham. The £226 million (GDV) regeneration in the centre of Lewisham will deliver 958 new homes and a state of the art leisure centre incorporating a gym, café and Olympic-sized swimming pool.
The news comes just one month after Southwark Council announced that Barratt had been chosen to deliver a £258 million (GDV) development at Canada Water which will provide 960 homes.
And the same developer secured the £40 million (GDV) Kerrin Point development in Lambeth in mid August.
Barratt’s Lewisham scheme will include a mixture of private, shared ownership and social rented homes. The development includes commercial units facing Loampit Vale and the City Mission, some of which will be targeted at creative businesses. Work is scheduled to start in late 2008.
The Housing Association for the scheme is London and Quadrant, which was Barratt’s partner in the bid. The lead architects are Assael, incorporating a team from LA Architects.
Alastair Baird, Managing Director of Barratt East London, said: "To win three schemes of this importance in such a short space of time illustrates the momentum which Barratt is now building in the capital.”
“All three developments will bring enduring benefits to parts of London which have a pressing need for regeneration of the highest standard.”
