Mews houses offer a rare opportunity for family living in London

2nd September 2008 Print
Berkeley Homes (Urban Living) Ltd has launched The Armouries Mews Houses at Royal Arsenal in Woolwich, SE18. Only six of these very exclusive and highly desirable Mews Houses are for sale. They offer purchasers a rare chance to own a brand new three-bedroom, two-storey home in London - a glimmer of light for families in the capital who are faced with a chronic shortage of good quality houses for sale.

The Mews Houses at The Armouries are set around stunning landscaping, with each house boasting a rear terrace overlooking a central lagoon.

Designed by architect A&Q Partnership, The Armouries Mews Houses reflects a contemporary style while also keeping the traditional layout of a mews house. In the 17th and 18th centuries, mews houses were traditionally built behind large houses with the ground floor used to house horse-drawn carriages and the first floor used as living quarters. Today, mews houses conjure up quintessentially British living, and Berkeley Homes has given has given this property type a distinctly modern twist.

The Mews Houses are a part of The Armouries, the current phase of 455 new build apartments at Royal Arsenal. The Mews Houses will feature the same high level specification as the neighbouring apartments, including Asselle kitchens with granite worktops, integrated appliances, white bathroom suites with chrome hardware and chrome heated towel rails, and a choice of flooring options throughout.

The Armouries is built on the site of a former Royal Carriage Factory. An old clock tower building that has been fully restored by Berkeley Homes will be used as the new, gated access to the Mews Houses. The landscaped mews runs along the centre part of The Armouries with a contemporary gatehouse at the south end of the building, providing another entry and exit point.

Paul Vallone, Managing Director of Berkeley Homes (Urban Living) Ltd, comments: "With the shortage of houses in South East London, The Armouries Mews Houses offers a rare opportunity for families to live in a unique new-build house. They are the first mews houses to be built on the Royal Arsenal development and with only six available for sale, they will be popular with upwardly mobile families."

Royal Arsenal's thriving community of over 3,000 residents enjoys a residents' only gym, a Couture Food Hall, a Thames Clipper stop on site, a Streetcar-run car club, a 24-hour concierge facility, Wellington Park, and a forthcoming Young's Pub opening in Spring 2009. Early next year will also see the opening of Woolwich's DLR station. Woolwich is included in the Crossrail plans, with the new rail service gaining Royal Assent in July 2008. The new station will be located on the Royal Arsenal development.

Prices for the The Armouries Mews Houses start from £480,000, while one-bedroom apartments at The Armouries start from £250,000, £300,000 for two bedroom apartments, and £325,000 for three bedroom apartments.
