Barratt launches final phase of SW19 Sanctuary in Wimbledon This Saturday 27th September, Barratt Southern Counties will kick off the promotion of the long awaited final phase of its SW19 Sanctuary development at Wimbledon, on the site of the first Wimbledon football ground at Plough Lane, with the launch of two new showhomes.

The previous phases of SW19 Sanctuary have enjoyed incredible sales success, even without a showhome to view, 75 per cent of the homes have already sold off-plan.

SW19 Sanctuary comprises 398 contemporary homes, offering studio, one and two-bedroom apartments with prices starting at £196,995. A further 172 stylish apartments will be affordable and managed by Thames Valley Housing Association, providing a mix of tenures including shared ownership and rented accommodation.

The development blends a riverside location with contemporary design. All the apartments have balcony views, many over the inviting gardens and a lively communal verandah. There are also approximately 400 parking spaces available for residents, a rare commodity in London. Many of the homes are available for immediate occupation.

The mixed-use development will also make provision for 45,000 sq ft of retail space, creating both necessary facilities and employment opportunities for the existing community.

"Plough Lane, through football, provided a community focus and happy memories for many local residents and countless fans," says Trevor Sawyer, managing director of Barratt Southern Counties. "SW19 Sanctuary will, we hope, quickly achieve the same sense of community for its new residents and bring with it services and job opportunities, to the benefit of all."

It is unsurprising that the development has been so popular; SW19 Sanctuary is located in the enviable SW19 postcode and regular services from Wimbledon Station reach London Waterloo in under 20 minutes. The area also boasts excellent recreational facilities, including Wimbledon Common, the largest open area of green space in south-west London, and Wimbledon Park.

SW19 Sanctuary has been built with environmental sustainability firmly in mind; Barratt has followed ‘The Merton Rule,' the pioneering planning policy initiated by the London Borough of Merton. This policy requires the use of renewable energy onsite to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. It also maintains that developments must generate at least ten percent of their own energy requirements and at SW19 this will be achieved with solar panels.

When completed, SW19 Sanctuary will become known as Reynolds Gate, to honour the memory of another Wimbledon star from its amateur days, Eddie Reynolds, the striker who scored four goals in the epic FA Amateur Cup Final in 1963 against Sutton. This secures Wimbledon's place in the pantheon of football greats as the only team ever to win both amateur and professional FA Cups.

Prices at SW19 Sanctuary start from £196,995 for a studio apartment. For further information, log on to Barratthomes.co.uk.
