Croydon office block converted to residential tower

Bauhaus was formerly known as Lennig House, a 1960's grey office block concealing artwork in the lobby and basement car park by William Mitchell, the man responsible for the Egyptian staircase in Harrods and sculptures in The Ritz, Paris and Liverpool Cathedral. It now houses 189 units of which 56 are still available.
Due for completion from January 2009, the building was designed by architects Bryden Wood Associates, with the sharp lines and angular features indicative of its name which alludes to the German art movement of the early 20th century.
Apartments range in size from 441sq ft to over 1100 sq ft and features such as walnut veneer flooring, integrated high gloss kitchens with integrated stainless steel over and ceramic hob, and white Roca bathrooms come as standard. Communal areas have been interior designed and passenger lifts make for easy access to all floors. Balconies are available on all penthouses.
To assist purchasers, MyChoiceHomeBuy, a government funded low cost home ownership programme, is available for specific groups, such as key workers and first time buyers. Alternatively Durkan Estates are offering a supported mortgage scheme whereby a mortgage could be subsidised by 2 ½% for two years.
Bauhaus is situated just off the High Street and within easy walking distance of East Croydon station with train journeys to London Bridge or Victoria in under 20 minutes. The new Tramlink service opened in 2000 and runs fast and frequent services between Croydon, Wimbledon and Beckenham with plans in hand to extend the route north to Crystal Palace, and work is underway on the East London Line extension to bring the tube network to Croydon by 2010.
Croydon is currently undergoing a multi million pound regeneration with new residential, commercial and cultural quarters planned. There is a huge selection of shops, ranging from large name department stores, to smaller specialist boutiques, as well as Surrey Street Market which has been trading since 1276.
Prices at Bauhaus start from £179,995 for a one bedroom apartment, £223,500 for a two bedroom apartment, £339,995 for a two bedroom mews house and £359,995 for a three bedroom penthouse. Parking is available on selected units at an additional £10,000.
