Limehouse offers village feel in London

14th November 2008 Print
For some house buyers, living in London is essential but not everyone wants to be surrounded by urban sprawl or listen to a 24-hour city soundtrack. Despite London's capital status, there are more peaceful areas dotted around, including Limehouse in East London. The banks of the Limehouse Cut are home to Caspian Wharf - Berkeley Homes (South East London) Ltd's development in E3.

In recent years Limehouse has undergone rapid regeneration and has emerged with its own identity as a village within a city. Set against the River Thames between Tower Bridge and Canary Wharf, Limehouse is now blossoming as a niche area in East London. The area is known for its strong sense of community with many of the inhabitants working in the creative industries - many at the 3 Mills Studios, London's largest film studio complex - giving Limehouse a bohemian feeling. The area is also home to actors including Sir Ian McKellen and Steven Berkoff.

Now Berkeley Homes is offering home buyers the chance to live is this vibrant part of East London at its Caspian Wharf waterside development, where prices start from just £205,000 for a studio apartment.

Each one of the 82 private studios, one, two and three-bedroom apartments at Caspian Wharf has been designed and built to the highest of standards. Every property boasts a private terrace or balcony, many of which have breathtaking views towards Canary Wharf. One of the apartments benefits from a terrace measuring 1,426 square feet. There's also a communal terrace and a landscaped podium for exclusive use by the residents.

Internally, the apartments are fitted with the very best appliances and hardware, designed to offer a contemporary, low-maintenance lifestyle. As standard are individually designed Alno kitchens, Siemens appliances, heated towel rails and under-floor heating.

Although Limehouse has undergone a renaissance, which has accelerated since winning the 2012 Olympic bid, it has managed to retain its historic charm. The area has an abundance of cafes, bars and restaurants, notably Gordon Ramsay's The Narrow, which is housed in a Grade II listed building originally built as the Dock Master's house. The Grapes pub, also on Narrow Street, was a personal favourite of Charles Dickens, and retains its olde world character with bare floorboards and wooden chairs.

Caspian Wharf is one of the best connected new homes developments in East London, with Langdon Park and Devons Road DLR stations, and Bromley-by-Bow and Bow Road Tube stations within walking distance. Residents at Caspian Wharf are also a short stroll from Roman Road market, Mile End Park and Victoria Park, giving residents the opportunity to enjoy regular fetes, open air concerts and festivals.

Current prices at Caspian Wharf start from £205,000. For more information, log on to Cityquarter.co.uk.
