City Quarter triumphs at the What House? Awards

17th December 2008 Print
Multi-award winning City Quarter, Berkeley Homes (South East London) Ltd's apartment development on the fringe of London's Square Mile in E1, has now also walked away with two of the most coveted accolades at the What House? Awards 2008.

The development of 294 new and conversion apartments on 99 Leman Street is currently selling across three phases - Sugar House, Hoopers Yard and Times Square. The overall development under the City Quarter name scooped a Silver award in the Best Development category, fighting off a number of other national new homes schemes. The Sugar House apartments, which are set in a listed former Victorian warehouse, were also awarded a Bronze in the Best Interior Layout category.

The judges of the What House? Awards described City Quarter as a "powerful modern scheme with a sensitive and well-handled restoration of a landmark Grade II listed building."

Speaking about the interior layouts in Sugar House, the judges remarked: "The properties are a pleasing combination of period details with modern accents. We particularly liked the original pillars, which have been left untouched. The eight feet-high doors are solid, yet fold flat for more space and the large living area can be partitioned off. Overall, a very thoughtfully considered and deliberated project."

City Quarter's success at the What House? Awards 2008 is hot on the heels of a 4* award in the Best Apartment category at The Daily Mail UK Property Awards 2008.

Piers Clanford, Managing Director of Berkeley Homes (South East London) Ltd, said after the ceremony: "City Quarter is a truly unique development for London and we are pleased that the judges have recognised the hard work that has gone into the scheme. This latest clutch of awards caps off a remarkable year for Berkeley Homes."
