Harriet Harman visits Camberwell Grove development Minister for Sport, Gerry Sutcliffe MP, Under Secretary of State in the Department for Culture, Media & Sport, accompanied Harriet Harman MP for Camberwell and Peckham on a visit to Camberwell Grove, a development by St George, on Wednesday 21st January 2009 with members of the Butterfly Tennis Club and local residents.

The MPs viewed a model of the development which was formerly home to the Mary Datchelor Girls School, established in the nineteenth century. St George is restoring the existing school buildings to provide a collection of well specified refurbished studio, one, two and three bedroom apartments. In addition, a new build scheme of affordable apartments, which will also benefit from solar heated panels, is currently under construction. The final phase will deliver a collection of Georgian style two, three and four bedroom townhouses on Camberwell Grove.

Charmaine Young CBE, Regeneration Director of St George PLC, explained to the Minister and Harriet Harman MP that the Camberwell Grove scheme will provide 58 private and 32 affordable new homes. St George has also contributed to health, education and public realm improvements in the local area. To support these commitments, St George is also undertaking employment and training initiatives with local residents within the borough.

St George has worked closely with the Butterfly Tennis Club to provide two newly refurbished tennis courts that lie adjacent to the development. Run by members and volunteers from the local community, the club provides an active children’s coaching programme, adult social tennis, and an annual tournament and open day. Upon completion of the development, St George will also hand over the marketing suite as the club’s new club house that will provide a permanent facility for members to enjoy.

Mark Griffiths, Managing Director of St George South London comments “We have worked particularly closely with Chris Owen, Chairman of the Butterfly Tennis Club, and local residents to deliver on our commitments, which are an asset for the area and we hope our customers will also enjoy them as they take up residence this summer”.

St George has released a selection of refurbished Ruskin House apartments and the Bryce, Pepys and Hartridge House townhouses. Apartment prices start from £249,950 for a studio and £999,950 for a townhouse.
