750,000 safe working hours at Parkwest

Parkwest is a residential development comprising 574 high quality apartments and penthouses surrounded by award winning landscaped gardens. Whilst being justifiably proud of such a large, high profile scheme, St George West London has remained acutely aware of the danger that complacency poses to Health and Safety. St George prides itself on having a dedicated Health and Safety Management team in place, which enforces strict regulations in order to protect the safety of its staff.
Ian Dobie Managing Director of St George West London comments: “Our main objective is to send our workforce home safely at the end of each day and at the same time to protect the public. We are delighted to have reached this milestone at Parkwest and look forward to achieving our next goal of 1 million hours. This has been the result of a team effort between us and our contractors. I am extremely proud of our Parkwest team for this superb achievement!”
The potential for accidents on construction sites is quite obvious and St George have only enjoyed this success due to the zero tolerance attitude towards Health & Safety which its Senior Management Team have adopted and passed through to its sub contractors. In turn they have embraced this culture and passed the message down to their tradesmen and operatives.
In recognition of the St George PLC’s commitment to health and safety, the developer was recently granted the Highly Commended RoSPA award within the Housebuilding & Property Development Sector. John Perkins, St George PLC Divisional Health & Safety Manager commented; "We are extremely proud to have been granted this award, as a testament to our focus on all aspects of Health & Safety and recent milestones, such as achieving over 5 million safe working hours across all sites.
“We continue to strive for excellence to give our workforce the protection they rightly deserve."
In house safety awareness programmes such as ‘Goggles for Guide Dogs’ has also helped to deliver the safety message to all site staff whilst also raising money for charity. In conjunction with Guide Dogs for the Blind, St George West London hold an annual campaign parallel with the National Shades for a Day programme to promote eye safety on construction sites.
