London students re-design Edgware with Barratt Students of London Academy, a popular school for 11-18 year olds, have designed a ‘fantasy landscape’ for the site hoarding for Evolution, Barratt West London’s new development in Edgware.

The hoarding is currently being installed on site and the development is due to launch later this year.

During school art lessons and holiday workshops hosted by artist Richard Milner and performing arts centre, the Roundhouse, pupils aged 14-16 have designed artwork featuring homes, buildings and living environments as well as various forms of transport, including cars, buses and even rockets! Students also created ‘performance art’, by posing to depict scenes, such as driving, reading, day dreaming and playing sports. Photographs of the scenes were taken and incorporated into the drawings. The artwork will be displayed around the site for the duration of the six year project.

Alastair Baird, Managing Director of Barratt West London, comments: “London Academy sits in the heart of Evolution so it has been tremendous having its students involved in this community project. Their designs are fantastic and I’m extremely impressed with what they have come up with.”

Artist Richard Milner said: “It’s great that Barratt has involved the students in this way – they had a terrific time and it was wonderful to see them so excited about the project and be so creative.”

Marcus Davey, Chief Executive and Artistic Director of The Roundhouse comments: "The Roundhouse seeks to offer creative opportunities to all young people. We are delighted that Barratt has offered us this chance to work closely with the Academy students and encourage them to express their imagination and take pride in their environment."

Evolution is a benchmark in regeneration which will transform and rejuvenate a rundown and neglected area of tired, high-rise buildings in Edgware. When complete, the development will offer a selection of one, two and three-bedroom apartments and three and four-bedroom houses. The site will include a central ‘hub’, comprising a new community centre and church. In addition to the London Academy, there is also a local primary school and a parade of shops for day-to-day needs within walking distance. The nearby Stanmore Underground Station, which is on the Jubilee line, provides easy access into Canary Wharf, making this location ideal for city workers.

Of the 30 acre site, 12.5 acres will be dedicated green and landscaped areas. All the existing trees will remain on site and over 1,000 new trees will be planted. Ponds will also be created to preserve and enhance local wildlife.

Guide prices start from £217,500 for a one-bedroom apartment.
