Redrow set to open unique art gallery in Bingham

7th April 2008 Print
Always striving to be innovative and original, Redrow Homes is set to transform its latest show home at Mill Hill, Bingham, into an art gallery exhibiting a range of work from local artists.

The award winning house builder is teaming up with local Nottingham-based interior design company Bo & Jangles to set up the exhibition, which will feature an assortment of art and craft works.

With 12 artists from around the Midlands already committed to the venture and Redrow and its designers eager to recruit more local creative talent, it looks set to be an artistic feast for the eyes.

Catherine Cloke, area sales manager for Redrow Homes (Midlands), said: “The creation of a ‘gallery’ within the forthcoming new show home at Mill Hill is a great opportunity for artists to open their work up to a new audience of potential homes owners, who will be looking to personalise their own new properties when they move.

“It’s possible that many of these people will never have visited a local art or craft gallery or workshop prior to visiting the exhibition. In this 'real life' backdrop of a home rather than in the articifical environment of a shop or gallery, the work will be highlighted as accessible, original and individual, and will no doubt generate new enquiries and commissions as well as sales.”

The show home will be sensitively designed and decorated by Redrow’s interior design team so that it acts as a blank canvas for each of the individually crafted items, which the housebuilder is hoping will range from ceramics and furniture to jewellery, textiles and engraved glassware. It is planned to be open for at least 12 months.

Christine Williams, creative director of Bo & Jangles said: “This is a fantastic collaboration and a novel way to introduce the work of local artists to a wider audience of potential customers and is an ideal opportunity for local artists to raise their profile throughout the Midlands.

“The exhibition will also help Redrow customers to appreciate the beauty that individually designed art could bring to their own new home, as an alternative to the mass-market items available on the high street.”

Redrow has successfully hosted similar projects across the UK, in Scotland, South Wales and Northamptonshire.

The award winning housebuilder is a keen supporter of the arts, featuring original art and photography in many of its show homes and having previously partnered with the National Trust on the Redrow Schools Partnership, which brought together children from contrasting urban and rural schools to work on arts based activities at their local Trust property.

Catherine added: “The gallery is a welcome opportunity for Redrow to showcase home-grown talent and provide a new and valuable resource for the arts. It’s yet another example of the innovative ways in which Redrow invests in the communities in which it builds.

“It will also add interest to our show home and create another reason for people to visit, perhaps even those who wouldn’t normally come to a new homes development. We hope to have it ready for viewing by early May.”

Redrow also took an innovative step with the five-bedroom Rickford style show home already open at Mill Hill, which showcases life over three floors and incorporates the design ideas of a nine-year-old to create a dream girl’s bedroom.

Beautifully situated in Bingham, a bustling market town, and set in the breathtaking scenery of Nottinghamshire, with the buzz of Nottingham city centre just nine miles away, Mill Hill offers the ultimate in flexible, town and country living.
