Local kids play the fairway thanks to Miller Homes Twelve children from Forest View Junior School, Ollerton, have enjoyed a day of professional golf thanks to award winning housebuilder Miller Homes. The six boys and six girls chipped their way onto the green under the watchful eye of local PGA Professional Kevin Lock to experience the game at first hand. After a taster training session held at the school twelve children were chosen to attend a further training session in situ at Rufford Park Golf Club.

Lorraine Hogan, teaching assistant at Forest View said: "This was a great opportunity for some children that had only ever seen the sport played on TV. Kevin was a great inspiration, he not only taught the children golfing techniques he also taught them the etiquette of the game and the rules of the course.

"They all really enjoyed the experience and would like to thank Miller Homes for giving them the opportunity."

Miller, who is currently building a development of two bedroom apartments through to three bedroom family homes at The Meadows in Ollerton, is keen to establish good relations with the local community and arranged for the coaching to take place. Jan Hanaby, area sales manager for Miller Homes Yorkshire said: "As part of our ongoing relationship with the community in Ollerton, we wanted to offer the children a chance to experience something quite different to their everyday activities. Golf is an interesting sport the children may see on TV or play on computer games although they may not have experienced it first hand."

Kevin Lock, professional golfer and coach at Rufford Park Golf Club commented: "The children were great sports, they listening intently and grasped the techniques really well. They demonstrated a great understanding of the technique associated with ball striking on the driving range and putting.

"It is thanks to Miller Homes these children have been given an opportunity to experience a fantastic sport that is not taught in school. It is a sport that both girls and boys can enjoy if offers enjoyable exercise as well as teaches good discipline."

Kevin added: "I have been inspired by the enthusiasm of the children at Forest View to offer my coaching services to other schools in the area, and introduce the game to many others."

Jan continued: "We are pleased that the children all enjoyed their day and hope it is something that they will continue. Or at the very least we hope it has inspired them to try new things that don't necessarily crop up in every day life."

The Meadows is located in the newer part of Ollerton, opposite ‘The Sherwood Energy Village'. Ollerton is a beautiful rural village lying in the heart of Sherwood Forest yet conveniently situated amongst the larger towns of Newark, just 13 miles to the south, Retford, 11 miles to the north and Worksop 10 miles to the west, with the A1 just lying 1 mile away.

Homes available at the development start at only £78,500. For more information, log on to Millerhomes.co.uk.
