First time buyer gets on the ladder with Barratt

Phil Hinton, an Assistant Surveyor from Nottingham, has managed to take his first step onto the property ladder with the help of Barratt Homes' fantastic First Time Buyers' Initiative (FTBI).

Barratt Homes North Midlands joined forces with English Partnerships to deliver the FTBI as part of the Department of Communities and Local Government's (CLG) HomeBuy low-cost home-ownership scheme.

The initiative enables first time buyers like Phil, and other eligible groups to purchase a new build home with an affordable mortgage and government assistance.

Sales director for Barratt North Midlands, James Poynor, explains: "This is a win-win situation for first time buyers as they can own their entire home for only 50 per cent of the cost, whilst English Partnership provide a loan for the remaining amount. It makes things easier for prospective purchasers by ensuring that they can make the move without stretching their finances too far."

With the assistance of the FTBI Phil was able to secure a fantastic two bedroom, open plan apartment at Barratt North Midlands Park Mews development in Arnold with the help of the FTBI scheme.

He explains: "I had been living in the area with my parents and didn't think I would be able to get my own place so quickly. Then I heard about the new scheme for first time buyers from one of my colleagues and knew this was my chance.

"The sales advisors were so helpful in explaining the scheme and during the moving process - I barely had to do anything, it was so straightforward. And now I own a top-notch apartment. Without the First Time Buyers Initiative I would still be living at home."

James adds: "Our aim is to simplify the home buying process as much as possible by providing buyers with an easy start. We want to help people like Phil make that first step and realise that now really is a great time to buy."
