A family home at the right price

A family home at the right price Having lived in rented accommodation for 18 months with their twin toddlers, Mike and Ally Stephenson were very keen to move into a home of their own. In 2007 the couple decided to make a move to North Yorkshire from Nottingham to be closer to family and rented in Thirsk until they found their ideal family house.

The couple toured the villages and towns of North Yorkshire and decided upon George Wimpey’s new Mill Gardens development in Thirsk because they felt a new build property at the development offered them by far the best value for money.

Mike said: “The houses at Mill Gardens ticked all the right boxes for us in terms of a family home, and we would have paid an extra twenty percent to get the same type of property elsewhere in the area!

“It was the first new build home we’d bought and we also bought it off-plan so it was all quite nerve-wracking at first, but George Wimpey kept us very well informed about how the house was progressing and it all worked out incredibly well.”

The Stephensons moved into their new house in May this year. Because the couple chose to buy off-plan at an early stage of the development, it meant they were able to choose their favourite plot on the development.

“We managed to get a house in a great spot,” said Mike, “We can see the North Yorkshire moors from our windows and we’ve got a park just across the road with Cod Beck running through it and plenty of play equipment for the children. It’s all very idyllic.”

Speaking about their new home, Mike said: “It’s a fantastic family house; it has a large lounge and a big dining kitchen that is great for family meals, and it means we can use the dining room more as a family room.”

Upstairs the family have four large double bedrooms, one of which George Wimpey painted bright pink for the girls before they moved in. Mike commented: “Anna and Emily are four now and they absolutely love it!”

The family say that their new environment is perfect for people with children because there are so many places to visit within easy reach. “The development is only about 10 minutes drive from the moors and 50 minutes from a beach,” said Mike, “and it’s only short walk to the market place in Thirsk.

“We’ve also been impressed with the schools in the neighbourhood. We were concerned that we wouldn’t be able to match the standard of the schools we’d left in Nottingham, but we think that the local schools have actually surpassed them!”
