Fourth ‘Oscar’ for Miller Homes’
And the winner, for an unprecedented fourth year in succession is… Bill Hughes, Supreme Award title holder for 2006.
After a year of rigorous judging, Bill swept through three rounds of the competition, and beat off competition from over 18,000 site managers to take the Supreme Award title in the Large Builder category.
Bill could not believe his success for the 4th successive year as he was presented with his award by tv’s Carol Smiley. Only seven people in the scheme’s 26 year history have won the award more than once. Bill said: “When I won my first ‘Supreme’ award I thought that I had achieved my lifetime’s ambition. Every win since then has just been a remarkable and amazing experience. I have a great team of colleagues and highly skilled, and professional trades people, without their dedication and support this success would not have been possible.”
Bill, 53, originally from Liverpool, currently manages Miller Homes', ‘Greenwood’ development in Ellesmere Park conservation area in Eccles. He is overseeing the construction of 35 luxury detached homes with a team of between 50 to 70 people on site.
The Pride in the Job competition has the primary purpose of seeking out and rewarding the very best site managers in the UK. It stands alone as one of the most prestigious competitions in the house-building industry. Over the years, the competition has become synonymous with quality new homes and as a result has become a recognised seal of approval for new homebuyers everywhere.
Earlier in the competition 12 of Miller Homes site managers were honoured with ‘Quality Awards’ and 5 achieved the ‘Seal of Excellence’ title. Steve Booth, Harry Dainton and Bill Hughes, all from Miller Homes’ North West, alongside Vinnie Morris (East Midlands) and James Fenton (Scotland East) earned a place in the top 100 site managers across the UK. Harry Dainton from Miller Homes’ “City One” development in Preston won the Regional award in the multi-storey category and Bill Hughes won the Regional award in the Large Builder category.
Miler Homes North West’s Managing Director, Nick Smith congratulated Bill on his success: “ Quality is a commitment that a lot of house builders talk about but few have the credentials to support their claim. It will be reassuring for Miller Homes’ customers to see an independent and prestigious body like the NHBC recognise and commend the skills and highest standards of build quality that are an integral part of every Miller Home. I am extremely proud of Bill’s hard work and success. It is well deserved.”
